CHAPTER 7 STATUTORY AND OTHER REGULATIONS




7.1       GENERAL


The generation, transmission and use of electricity in the United Kingdom is regulated by a number of Acts of Parliament and Statutory Instruments, some of which are listed below.

There are also a number of non-statutory regulations which, though having no legal force, are relevant.

7.2       STATUTORY REGULATIONS


7.2.1    Acts Relating to the Constitution and Functions of the Electricity Council and Boards
·            Electricity (Factories Act) Special Regulations 1908 (Amended 1944
Covers generating, transforming, converting, switching, controlling, regulating, distributing and use of electrical energy in electrical stations, factories, warehouses, ships in harbour, buildings, engineering works, streets and public places (but not private premises)`

·            Electricity Act 1947
·            Electricity Act 1957
(Set up the CEGB and Area Boards)

·              Certain of the foregoing Statutory and Non-statutory Regulations apply together with Statutory Instrument 1976 No. 1019 ‘The Offshore Installations (Operational Safety, Health and Welfare) Regulations 1976’.
